Day 6 - Part 1

The following morning there was a new face at breakfast. Julian, Lord Wakeshaw’s younger brother returned to the manor after long sessions of studying away from home. Lord Wakeshaw’s siblings hardly stayed at home, but they always came back. Julian stared at me the entire time I was present. He even whispered things to his brother. They were talking about me.

I remembered what I’d heard and seen last night. Their closeness unnerved me. I thought it seemed unusual for brothers to be so close with each other.

Lady Hannah approached me after breakfast and frowned.

“What’s the matter, my lady?” I asked her.

“Nathaniel has been odd since Julian returned. He spends time with him and forgets I am here when that boy is around.”

I frowned. “Yes, I’ve noticed.” I could see a change in his behavior in Julian’s presence. Julian left the dining room and his brother followed him. I stepped out of the dining room and headed back to the kitchen. Charlotte and Oscar sat at the table, mulling over their own food. I leaned against one of the walls, watching them.

“Something got you worried, Elijah?” Oscar asked me.

“No. I’m not worried.” Of course, I told him an outright lie. I was worrying about everything. Him, Charlotte, and the Wakeshaws. What was that fiend planning? What did he wish to gain from this cursed family?

Day 5 - Part 2

“Kyrenthel, I had no idea-”

“Really now, Razentel? You thought that seal would contain me forever? A foolish mortal decided to break it. And I decided to curse his progeny. It all works out for me in the end. And I get you as a bonus.”

I regret the day I was foolish enough to trust a demon. All my peers and teachers warned me about their lies and their tricks. I did not believe them. I met him. He was wounded, and I got him to safety and tended to his wounds. Eventually he came to and I was able to talk to him.

I couldn’t believe what happened next. He had sex with me. And I enjoyed it. I thought I could not get back into Heaven.

“Why are you acting as a priest?” I asked him. “It isn’t a role fitting of you!”

“How do you know what is fitting and what is not fitting, Razentel?” he asked.

“I…”

“You don’t. You’re just another naïve little angel who doesn’t know anything. That’s why I like you. Soon you will be on my side of the fence.”

I shook my head at him. “No. I will not join you.”

Day 5 - Part 1

Today after I made sure the family had their needs met, I left the manor to take a trip into the city of Karzendale. The city sounded loud and full of life.

Car horns blared at each other, and train whistles drowned out the hushed chatter of the people around me. I bumped into an older gentleman and uttered a humble apology.

“Sorry sir. I didn’t see you.” I told him. He only smiled at me.

“Ah, don’t worry, Lad!” he told me. “Somethin’ got you worried?” he asked.

“Well..  I’m worried about the Wakeshaw family…” I began.

His face went pale when I happened to mention the Wakeshaws. Then he quickly walked away from me. These people didn’t give easy information.

I walked over to a nearby pub. I knew there was a chance I could over hear something that might be helpful. People talk about everything in pubs.

“Well, at least it isn’t like those Wakeshaws…”

I turned my head, trying to understand more, but people kept moving. I didn’t focus my hearing. I got frustrated and decided to leave.  Luck was not on my side today.

‘I’m looking in the wrong place.’ I thought.

I took to walking through the city streets until I came across an old cathedral. I climbed up the stairs and entered the old hallowed building.

Inside, there was a sense of sacred space. Churches and cathedrals are the few places remind me of Heaven. I looked to the front of the sanctuary and saw the priest kneeling at the altar. I went up to him and waited.

Day 4

I missed the time to write in my journal. Lady Fiona had a horrible fever and I had to help care for her. Even right now she is still ill and confined to her room.

“She usually falls ill around this time of year.” Lord Wakeshaw told me. “There’s still so much I didn’t tell you.”

I frowned at him and massaged my temples. He followed me as picked up a tray to carry food up to Fiona’s room. She still needed to eat to help regain her health.

When we entered the room, Fiona sat up against the pillows, pale from her illness. She made a pained noise as she looked at us.

“I hate everything!” she snapped before a fit of coughs shook her slender frame. Unfortunately I had the misfortune of meeting her other personality, by the name of Nia. Nia is frail and sickly, but she’s a cranky…well I hate to use this word…bitch.

“I’m dying of hunger.” Nia snapped.

Lord Wakeshaw put his palm on his sister’s forehead.

“I’m happy your fever is gone.”

“I want to eat. And I’m cranky. Go away.”

I took the tray over to her bed and put it over her lap.

She picked up the spoon and began to eat while going at the both of us.

“Get out! I don’t need you watching me while I am eating!”

So we left her in silence. Hannah called out to Nathaniel so he left me to go and tend to tend to her. I returned to my quarters and stared at the bloodstained journal.  I decided contacting Heaven would be a good idea.

I leaned back on my chair. I lowered my arm and a white feather dropped into my hand.

I lifted the feather to my face and touched it to my lips, speaking a few sacred words.
